The UMBC men’s cross country team placed 17th in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Princeton University, on Saturday afternoon. This is a two-spot improvement over last year’s 19th place finish.

Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week: Kathleen Galan
Senior Kathleen Galan led the UMBC women’s cross country team to a 22nd place finish last week at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional en route to a personal career best time. The accomplishment earns her the Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week honor for last week.
Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week--Anthony Kelhower
Anthony Kelhower ran the fastest time of the year in an 8K for the Retrievers this past weekend in Williamsburg, Va. at the William and Mary Tribe Open and led the men’s team to a third- place finish behind host William and Mary and the University of Virginia. The time of 25:35.8 also ranks as Kelhower’s personal career best, earning him the title of Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week.
3/6/2010 Freshmen Shine, But Men's Basketball Season Ends in America East Quarterfinals West Hartford, Conn.—A pair of freshmen, wing Shawn Grant and post Adrian Satchell gave UMBC fans a promising glimpse of the future, but the seventh-seeded Retrievers dropped a 76-59 decision to second-seeded Vermont (23-9) in the quarterfinals of the 2010 America East Tournament. It was UMBC’s (4-26) first defeat to open tournament play since 2003-04, their first season in the conference.

3/5/2010 Men's Basketball: Gilliam, Satchell Earn America East All-Conference Honors West Hartford, Conn.—Sophomore guard Chauncey Gilliam (Columbia, Md./Brewster (N.H.) Academy) earned America East Third Team All-Conference honors, while freshman post Adrian Satchell (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) was named to the league’s All-Rookie team, it was announced at the conference’s awards reception at the University of Hartford. The seventh-seeded Retrievers meet second-seeded Vermont at 6:00 p.m. in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday.

3/2/2010 Men's Basketball to Face Vermont in America East Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 6 The seventh-seeded UMBC Retrievers take on the second-seeded Vermont Catamounts in the quarterfinal round of the America East Tournament in West Hartford, Conn. The two league rivals meet at the U. Hartford’s Chase Family Arena in the third quarterfinal contest, which will be played at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. The winner will advance to take on the winner of No. 4 Maine vs. No. 5 New Hampshire on Sunday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. All the action of UMBC basketball will be available on the Retrievers’ flagship station, Fox 1370 AM (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein on the call. Video streaming is also available for the quarterfinal contest on www.americaeast.tv.
