BETHLEHEM, Pa.—The UMBC men’s cross country finished in 19th place with 532 points, and women’s cross country senior Alex Hyland (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) ran a blistering 5:33 pace to finish with a time of 20:38, good for 13th place overall at the 2007 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa.

STONY BROOK, N.Y.—The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams finished competition on Saturday at the 2007 America East Championships with the men finishing fifth with 125 total points and the women seventh with 182 points. Both teams improved from last year’s meet as the men finished sixth and the women finished eighth in 2006.

Stony Brook, N.Y.—The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete in the 2007 America East Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Stony Brook University with the women’s 5K race slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. and the men’s 8K at 11:30 a.m.

Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week: Kathleen Galan
Senior Kathleen Galan led the UMBC women’s cross country team to a 22nd place finish last week at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional en route to a personal career best time. The accomplishment earns her the Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week honor for last week.
Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week--Anthony Kelhower
Anthony Kelhower ran the fastest time of the year in an 8K for the Retrievers this past weekend in Williamsburg, Va. at the William and Mary Tribe Open and led the men’s team to a third- place finish behind host William and Mary and the University of Virginia. The time of 25:35.8 also ranks as Kelhower’s personal career best, earning him the title of Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week.
5/13/2008 UMBC Basketball Inks Prep Standout Chauncey Gilliam to National Letter of Intent UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe has announced that Chauncey Gilliam has signed a national letter-of-intent and will attend the university in the fall of 2008. Gilliam, a 6-4, 215-lb. wing guard/small forward, most recently attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. He averaged 6.2 points per game on a team which lost in the National Prep Championships semifinals to Hargrave Military Academy.
