PRINCETON, N.J.—The UMBC men’s cross country team placed 17th in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Princeton University, on Saturday afternoon. This is a two-spot improvement over last year’s 19th place finish.

COCKEYSVILLE, Md.—The UMBC men’s and women’s cross country teams finished competition on Saturday at the 2008 America East Championships as the men finished fifth with 123 points and the women placed eighth with 192 points.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC men’s and women’s Cross Country teams compete Saturday in the America East Championship at their home course of Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md. The men’s race will start at 10:30 a.m., while the women’s race will take place at 11:30 a.m.

UMBC alum Adam Driscoll won the first annual 5k Dawg Chase on Saturday, Oct. 25 in a time of 15:58.65. Eileen Fleck was first female in a time of 17:30.62. The 5k Dawg Chase was run on the campus of UMBC and was part of the 2008 Homecoming activities. UMBC athletics would like to thank everyone who came out and participated and we look forward to making the 5k Dawg Chase bigger and bigger for years to come!

Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week: Kathleen Galan
Senior Kathleen Galan led the UMBC women’s cross country team to a 22nd place finish last week at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional en route to a personal career best time. The accomplishment earns her the Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week honor for last week.
Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week--Anthony Kelhower
Anthony Kelhower ran the fastest time of the year in an 8K for the Retrievers this past weekend in Williamsburg, Va. at the William and Mary Tribe Open and led the men’s team to a third- place finish behind host William and Mary and the University of Virginia. The time of 25:35.8 also ranks as Kelhower’s personal career best, earning him the title of Force 3 UMBC Athlete of the Week.

6/29/2009 Men's Basketball Inks Virginia All-State Guard Jamar Wertz Baltimore, Md.—Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe announced today that Jamar Wertz (Suffolk, Va./King’s Fork) has signed a grant-in-aid form and will attend UMBC in the fall of 2009. The Virginia High School Coaches Association Group and the Virginia Associated Press named Wertz to the AAA Second-Team All-State boys’ basketball squad after the 2008-09 season. The six-foot-three, 185-lb. wing guard averaged 14.2 points per game last season and helped the Bulldogs (31-1) win the title of the VHSL boys’ basketball state championship.

Neller (Red Bank, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wing guard who amassed 1,119 points in his prep career. He earned Boys’ Player of the Year honors from the basketball coaches in the Shore Conference and from the media in The Asbury Park Press.
