ALBANY, N.Y. – Binghamton won nine straight points after falling behind 9-6 in the fifth and deciding set to come back and defeat the UMBC volleyball team in the first semifinal of the America East Championships. Set scores were 16-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 15-9. The Retrievers close out the season at 15-15 overall after posting an 8-4 mark in conference play.

BALTIMORE – The No. 3-seeded UMBC volleyball team takes on the No. 2-seed Binghamton Bearcats on Friday, Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. in the America East Championships, hosted by the University at Albany. In the previous four trips to the conference tournament, the Retrievers have advanced to the championship match twice – in 2006 and 2010 – falling to Albany on both occasions. Also, in both instances, UMBC defeated the Bearcats in the semifinals.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC junior setter Mallory McIntyre was selected as the America East Co-Setter of the Year, sharing the honor with Binghamton’s Amanda Dettmann, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon. McIntyre also earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team while Dettmann was slotted on the Second Team. The junior is the first UMBC setter to win the award since the Retrievers joined the America East in 2003.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The UMBC volleyball team finished the regular season in third place following a win over Stony Brook on the last weekend of the season and will take on the second-seeded Binghamton Bearcats this Friday, Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. at the America East Championship semifinals in Albany, N.Y.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Sophomore Hannah Schmidt (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) led a trio of Retrievers in double figures with 16 kills as the UMBC volleyball team clinched a berth in its fifth straight America East Championships with a four-set win over Stony Brook (27-25, 22-25, 25-14, 26-24), Friday afternoon at Pritchard Gymnasium.
