FAIRFAX, Va.—UMBC volleyball standout Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) has been selected as one of ten female national finalists for the 2012 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine announced the Top 10 male and female finalists for the award. The winners will be profiled in its May 24, 2012 edition. The finalists were chosen from over 600 outstanding minority student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions. The NCAA is the co-sponsor of this annual award.
BALTIMORE – UMBC head volleyball coach Ian Blanchard announced today that outside hitter Sherelle Walker has signed a National Letter of Intent to play her collegiate volleyball in Baltimore for the Retrievers in 2012.

The UMBC community mourns the passing of Greg Giovanazzi, who served as the Retrievers’ head volleyball coach from 2003-04. Mr. Giovanazzi, 54, died Monday after suffering a seizure at his Maryland residence. He served as UMBC’s head mentor after one year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Retrievers in 2002, but left after the 2004 season due to health concerns.

UMBC volleyball coach Ian Blanchard announced that Jenni Hirneisen will join the Retriever staff as an assistant coach, effective immediately. Hirneisen will fill the position vacated by Sara Warner who left the program last month.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team will kick-off the 2008 season at the William and Mary Invitational from August 29-30, head coach Ian Blanchard announced today.
2007 UMBC Women's Volleyball Prospectus Now Available
BALTIMORE--The UMBC women's volleyball team will return 11 letterwinners and add five newcomers to make up the 16-player team in 2007. Head coach Ian Blanchard will enter his third season at the helm of the women's team, while former University of California, San Diego standout Brianna Koche will assume assistant coaching responsibilities.
3/1/2012 Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime to Binghamton in America East Tournament First Round West Hartford, Conn.- Ninth-seeded Binghamton defeated No. 8 UMBC, 73-67, in overtime in the first round of the America East Tournament.
UMBC rallied from 11 points down with less than eight minutes remaining and sent the game to overtime, but could not defeat Binghamton for the third time this season. With the loss, the Retrievers finish the season at 4-26. Binghamton (2-28) advances to face No. 1 Stony Brook in the quarterfinals.
