Iman Kennedy Selected as National Finalist for Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award
FAIRFAX, Va.—UMBC volleyball standout Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) has been selected as one of ten female national finalists for the 2012 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine announced the Top 10 male and female finalists for the award. The winners will be profiled in its May 24, 2012 edition. The finalists were chosen from over 600 outstanding minority student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions. The NCAA is the co-sponsor of this annual award.

BALTIMORE – UMBC head volleyball coach Ian Blanchard announced today that setter Paige Miller has signed a National Letter of Intent to play her collegiate volleyball in Baltimore for the Retrievers in 2012.

UMBC volleyball senior Iman Kennedy picked up one more honor in her career as she was named to the America East All-Academic team, the conference office announced on Friday. Kennedy, who was named to the squad last year as well, had the highest GPA of all the honorees.

UMBC volleyball senior Iman Kennedy was named an Honorable Mention on COBRA Magazine’s All-East Region Team, the magazine announced on Saturday.

UMBC volleyball freshman Dalton Tolliver picked up one more award for the 2011 season, as she was named to the America East All-Championship Team, the conference announced Saturday evening.

UMBC volleyball freshman Dalton Tolliver had a team-high 13 kills and senior Allie Spaay recorded her 15th double-double of the year, but top-seeded Albany topped the Retrievers, 3-0 in the America East semifinals Friday night at University Gymnasium. The Great Danes advance to Saturday’s final against Stony Brook with set scores of 25-23, 26-24, 25-20.

Continuing a string of rookie honors at UMBC, freshman Dalton Tolliver (Ortonville, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) was named the America East Rookie of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon. In addition to being named the top rookie in the league, Tolliver was selected to the all-conference second team, the only freshman to earn a spot on either the first or second team.
