Women's Tennis Debuts at Home with 5-2 Win Over Howard
Baltimore—After a shaky shart, the UMBC women’s tennis team recovered and defeated visiting Howard, 5-2, in the first match played at the UMBC Tennis Complex in 2010. The Retrievers snapped a brief two-match slide and improved to 5-4 on the season.

Williamsburg, Va.—The UMBC women’s tennis team evened its record at 1-1 on the season as they edged James Madison (0-2), 4-3, in a match played at The College of William & Mary.

Williamsburg, Va.--The UMBC women's tennis team opened its 2010 season by taking on 47th-ranked William & Mary. The Retrievers were very competitive throughout the match, despite dropping a 7-0 decision. The No. 3 doubles tandem of senior Barbara Couto and freshman Lorena Valente took their match to a tie-breaker before falling, 8-7 (7-5).

Save the Date!!! The date for UMBC’s fourth annual “Advantage Retriever” tennis fundraiser is set for Saturday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Retriever Tennis Complex. This event is to help raise funds to make improvements to the tennis complex and has raised over $4,000 to date.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Senior Cornelia Carapcea (Constanta, Romania) and junior Dominic Devaud (Baltimore, Md.) were named America East Scholar Athletes for women’s tennis and men’s indoor track and field, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday. The conference named members of teams in the 15 championship sports which America East offered in the winter and spring seasons, that represent the best of the America East Conference both academically and athletically.

UMBC tennis standout Cornelia Carapcea (Constanta, Romania) has been named to the 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Women’s At-Large Second Team.
