Washington, D.C.- Beset by injuries, a short-handed UMBC women’s tennis team fell, 6-1, at Georgetown on April 10. Junior Josefin Stange-Jonsson continued her outstanding spring, with victories in both singles and doubles competition. She picked up UMBC’s lone point of the day, rallying from a rough start to defeat Liz Hamlin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Cambridge, Mass-- For the first time in its ten-year America East Conference history, UMBC will host the league’s men’s and women’s tennis championships. The championships will take place at the UMBC Tennis Complex on Fri.-Sun, April 26-28. The championship matches will commence on Sunday. The men’s title match begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the women at 2:00 p.m. The UMBC Tennis Complex features six newly-surfaced, lighted courts and is located on campus, adjacent to the RAC Arena.

Albany, N,Y.- Visiting UMBC got off to a promising start, capturing the doubles point, but the host Albany Great Danes rallied in singles and defeated the Retrievers, 4-1, in a match between America East Conference rivals.

BALTIMORE- UMBC junior Josefin Stange-Jonsson (Vasteras, Sweden) continued her outstanding singles play, prevailing in a tough three-set match, but the visiting Richmond Spiders defeated the Retrievers, 6-1, at the UMBC Tennis Complex on April 6.

Stony Brook, N.Y.- UMBC junior Josefin Stange-Jonsson continued her outstanding singles play and freshman Shannon Cleary added a victory, but the Retriever women’s tennis team fell at America East Conference rival Stony Brook, 5-2. Stange-Jonsson, coming off a win at James Madison on Friday, outlasted Lisa Setyon, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Cleary produced an outstanding effort at the No. 6 slot, defeating Becky Shtilkind, 6-2, 6-4.

Harrisonburg, Va.- The UMBC women’s tennis team started strong, capturing the doubles point, but host James Madison rallied for a 5-2 victory at the Hillside Courts. UMBC junior Josefin Stange-Jonsson won at both No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles to lead the Retrievers’ effort.
