Seven Named to the America East Swimming and Diving All-Academic Teams
Seven members of the UMBC swimming and diving teams were named to the America East All-Academic team, including seniors Tina Cantwell (Sinking Spring, Pa./The Hill School), Tereza Kaplanova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium J.G. Jankovskeho), Lindsay Sherman (Bethany, Conn./Amity) and Zach Vonder Haar (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy), juniors Keilan Freeman (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Argyll Centre) and Phillip Novotny (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) and sophomore John Mendenhall (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), as announced by the conference Tuesday.

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took home three golds as the men extended their lead going into the final day of the 2010 America East Championships in Boston.

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have three top seeds, 28 student-athletes competing and a new school record holder in the 100-yard breaststroke in the finals Saturday after preliminary action on Day 3 of the 2010 America East Championships in Boston. In addition, the Retrievers have 10 members swimming in the consolation finals. The finals start at 6 p.m.

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams broke three more school records as they finished Day 2 action of the 2010 America East Championships in Boston.

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will send 17 athletes into the championship finals on Day 2 of the 2010 America East Swimming and Diving Championships in Boston. In addition, the Retrievers will have six compete in the consolation finals.

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams head to Boston to compete in the 2010 America East Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday to Sunday in Boston. The Retriever men are looking for their seventh consecutive America East title and 12th conference championship in a row, while the women look to reclaim their title after finishing second at last year’s meet. The action starts Thursday at 6 p.m.
