Cambridge, Mass.--Six UMBC men’s tennis players and three women’s players earned America East Conference all-league honors. Sophomores Chris Meyer (New Market, Md.) and Fredi Voorman (Talinn, Estonia) each earned Second Team All America East honors in singles and doubles and were both named to the six-member All Academic squad.

New Haven, Conn.—The second-seeded UMBC men’s tennis team lost a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to No. 1 seed Binghamton in the title match of the America East Championship at the Yale Tennis Center. UMBC (15-5) had advanced with a 4-3 decision over Stony Brook in the semifinals. The second-seeded UMBC women’s team (13-4) fell in the semifinals to third-seeded Binghamton.

Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC men’s and women’s tennis teams head to New Haven, Conn. for this weekend’s America East Championships. The men will be trying to defend their title, while the women attempt to better last year’s runner-up finish. Both teams are seeded No. 2 as the tournament opens on Friday, April 25. The men open defense of the title vs. No. 3 Stony Brook on Sat., April 26 at 11:00 a.m., while the women take on the winner of the No. 3 Binghamton vs. No. 6 Hartford match on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - UMBC has swept America East Tennis Performer of the Week honors for the week ending April 14. The Retrievers' Fredi Voorman (Tallinn, Estonia) and Pascaline Cette (Menton, France/St. Joseph) were tabbed the week's top players on the men's and women's side, respectively. UMBC finished the regular seasons in tennis on extended victory streaks as both the men’s and women’s teams defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-2 in matches played in Teaneck, N.J. on Tuesday. The women won their final 12 matches of the season to finish the campaign at 13-3, while the men have taken seven straight matches and head into the America East Tournament at 14-4.

3/21/2008 "A Season to Remember" Ends in NCAA Tournament Setback to Second-Seeded Georgetown, 66-47 Raleigh, N.C—It was a basketball season like none other before at UMBC. But all good things must come to an end, and this memorable campaign did for the Retrievers today. They fought valiantly but fell to the second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas, 66-47, in the first round of the Midwest regional of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The sold out crowd of 19,477 and a national televised audience witnessed the scrappy and beloved Retrievers (24-9) pester the Hoyas (28-5) into 15 turnovers. However, UMBC could not crack the top defense in the nation and scored a season-low 47 points in the defeat.
