2/22/2009 Reitz Seeded First in 200 Fly; Esposito, Maccherola Break School Records as UMBC Swimming and Diving Competes in Prelims on Final Day of America East Championships
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Six members of the UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have been selected to the 2009 America East Swimming and Diving All-Academic Teams, as announced by the conference Wednesday. Senior P.J. Sterba (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson), junior Zach Vonder Haar (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and sophomore Keilan Freeman (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Argyll Centre) were named to the men’s side, while senior Daniele Surkovich (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) and juniors Tereza Kaplanova (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium J.G. Jankovskeho) and Lindsay Sherman (Bethany, Conn./Amity) were named to the women’s side.

2/22/2009 Reitz Seeded First in 200 Fly; Esposito, Maccherola Break School Records as UMBC Swimming and Diving Competes in Prelims on Final Day of America East Championships
BOSTON--The UMBC men's swimming and diving team has won the America East Championship for the sixth consecutive season and 12th overall conference title. The Retrievers finished with 900 points, beating Boston University 27 points, who finished 873. The women finished in second with 687 points. The Boston University women won the title for the first time in 14 years.

BOSTON--Juniors Jennifer Esposito (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst/C.W. Post) and Sam Maccherola (Woolford, Md./South Carroll/Tennessee) broke school records and sophomore Brad Reitz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) qualified first in the 200 fly as the UMBC swimming and diving teams competed in the last prelim session of the America East Championships Sunday at Boston University.

2005-06 SWIMMING AND DIVING MEDIA GUIDE AVAILABLE ONLINE
The 2005-06 UMBC swimming and diving media guide is now available online. The Retrievers are under the direction of fifth-year head coach Chad Cradock. The men are aiming to defend their America East Conference crown, which they have won twice in two seasons in the league, while the women are 5-0 already on the season and hope to better last year’s third-place finish in 2006. STANISLAWSKA HELPS TO BUILD A DYNASTY AT UMBC
Swimming and Diving Head Coach Chad Cradock has quietly built a dynasty at UMBC. Cradock’s teams have dominated three conferences during his four-year tenure at his alma mater. This season, he has seen the men’s team go undefeated in the regular season at 10-0 and win the America East Championship for the second year in a row, while the women have finished second and third in back-to-back years in the tough America East conference. During those two years, the Retriever women have been led by sophomore Agnieszka Stanislawska.

6/29/2009 Men's Basketball Inks Virginia All-State Guard Jamar Wertz Baltimore, Md.—Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe announced today that Jamar Wertz (Suffolk, Va./King’s Fork) has signed a grant-in-aid form and will attend UMBC in the fall of 2009. The Virginia High School Coaches Association Group and the Virginia Associated Press named Wertz to the AAA Second-Team All-State boys’ basketball squad after the 2008-09 season. The six-foot-three, 185-lb. wing guard averaged 14.2 points per game last season and helped the Bulldogs (31-1) win the title of the VHSL boys’ basketball state championship.

Neller (Red Bank, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wing guard who amassed 1,119 points in his prep career. He earned Boys’ Player of the Year honors from the basketball coaches in the Shore Conference and from the media in The Asbury Park Press.
