Track and Field’s Vincent Rentzsch Named UMBC’s May Athlete of the Month
BALTIMORE – UMBC freshman thrower Vincent Rentzsch of the track and field team was named the UMBC Athlete of the Month for May 2013, in a poll conducted from June 3-11. Rentzsch won the vote over women’s track’s Mercedes Jackson, men’s lacrosse’s Scott Jones, and baseball’s Kevin Lachance.
Jackson and Rentzsch Each Named Honorable Mention All-American
NEW ORLEANS – UMBC sophomore sprinter Mercedes Jackson and freshman thrower Vincent Rentzsch were each named an Honorable Mention All-American by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced on Monday evening.
Renztsch Finishes 21st in Javelin Competition on Final Day of NCAA Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – UMBC freshman thrower Vincent Rentzsch finished in 21st-place in the javelin competition at his first NCAA track and field championships, Saturday afternoon on the final day of the national outdoor meet at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
Jackson and Rentzsch Fly West to Oregon to Represent UMBC at NCAA Championships
BALTIMORE – Sophomore Mercedes Jackson and freshman Vincent Rentzsch fly west to become the first Retriever pair to compete at the same NCAA track and field championships when the national outdoor meet begins on Wednesday, June 5 at the University of Oregon. The four-day meet opens at Hayward Field on Wednesday with the women’s hammer throw at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 PT and closes on Saturday evening following the 4x400 relays.
Deller and Serafenas Compete for Retrievers on Final Day of NCAA East Preliminaries
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UMBC senior Amanda Deller earned a top-25 slot in the shot put and sophomore Thor Serafenas moved up 11 spots hammer throw as the Retriever track and field teams concluded participation at the NCAA East Preliminaries, Saturday at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Bell Track at Aggie Stadium.
Each month during the 2009-10 school year, America East featured a student-athlete from one of its nine member institutions. UMBC's Dominic Devaud, the 2010 America East Indoor Heptathlon Champion, was the subject of the May Best of U. series. Devaud will graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering later this month before heading off to complete a summer research project and entering UMBC's master's program in the fall.
