Rentzsch Shatters School Mark, Books Trip to Oregon for NCAA Championships; Jackson Also Headed West
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UMBC freshman Vincent Rentzsch shattered his own school record in the javelin and earned a spot at the NCAA Championships in Oregon, Friday afternoon at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Bell Track at Aggie Stadium. Sophomore Mercedes Jackson also advanced to the national meet, earning a spot in the 100m dash.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore sprinter Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) clipped her school-record time even lower as she finished 13th overall in the preliminary round of the 100m dash of the NCAA East Regionals, Thursday evening at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Bell Track at Aggie Stadium.
Six Top-Flight Retrievers Head to Tar Heel State for NCAA East Preliminaries
BALTIMORE – Six of the top UMBC track and field athletes will head to Greensboro, N.C. for the NCAA East Region Preliminaries which begin Thursday at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Bell Track at Aggie Stadium. The three-day meet will kick off with the men’s discus at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday and run through Saturday evening.
Record Number of Retrievers to Go to NCAA East Preliminaries
INDIANAPOLIS – A school-record six athletes from the UMBC track and field teams have advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries to be held at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. on May 23-25. The Retrievers’ total doubles the previous school-best of three which was set just last year.
Jackson Races to Gold Medal, New School Record at ECAC/IC4A Championships
PRINCETON, N.J. – UMBC sophomore Mercedes Jackson ran a new career-best and school record time to claim the top honors in the 100m dash at the ECAC/IC4A Championships, Sunday afternoon at Weaver Stadium.
Each month during the 2009-10 school year, America East featured a student-athlete from one of its nine member institutions. UMBC's Dominic Devaud, the 2010 America East Indoor Heptathlon Champion, was the subject of the May Best of U. series. Devaud will graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering later this month before heading off to complete a summer research project and entering UMBC's master's program in the fall.
