After one day of competition at the George Mason Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va., the UMBC men’s swimming and diving team stands at the top of the standings with 244 points, while the women are second with 278.
15 members of the UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams qualified for championship finals in the prelim session on Day 1 of the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va.

The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams travel to Fairfax, Va. this weekend and look to defend their George Mason Patriot Invitational titles. Last year, the women scored 861.5 points to claim their second title in three years, while the men tallied 1,177.5 points on their way to their third straight crown. The action starts Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.

11/20/2009 Men's Basketball Takes to Road to Face George Washington in Saturday Matinee UMBC plays its first road contest of the year and George Washington opens its home schedule as the Retrievers (0-2) and Colonials (2-0) play a Saturday matinee (2:00 p.m.) at the Smith Center. This will be the fourth consecutive year that these two teams have met. The Colonials won, 70-64, on Thanksgiving Eve last season and tied the all-time series at three apiece. Paul Mittermeier has the call of the game, beginning with the pregame show at 1:55 p.m. on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com).

11/18/2009 Gilliam Sparks Men's Basketball With 22 Points, But Retrievers Nipped, 69-66, by Loyola Junior guard Jamal Barney scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half as visiting Loyola (2-1) held off UMBC (0-2), 69-66, in the 43rd meeting between the two Baltimore-area schools. UMBC sophomore wing Chauncey Gilliam scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Retrievers. UMCB rallied from a 10-point first half deficit to lead on three occaions in the final three minutes, but could not pull out the victory.

That streak came to an end after the 2006-07 meeting, but the two schools renew the rivalry in the Retrievers’ second game of the campaign. The Retrievers and Greyhounds tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at the RAC Arena.
