The 2008 UMBC Retriever Club Golf Classic will take place on Mon., June 9 (11:00 a.m. shotgun start) at Rolling Road Club in Catonsville, Md. After 18 holes of golf and lunch on the scenic layout, guests are invited to a dinner buffet, happy hour and silent auction, all to benefit UMBC’s student-athletes. Essex, MD-- The UMBC women's golf team captured fourth place today at the NEC Championship at Rocky Point Golf Club in Essex, MD. The Retrievers had their best showing ever for this particular tournament, firing a two-day total 673, besting the previous conference championship mark by seven strokes. Unfortunately for UMBC, three other teams also shot under the previous record, led by champion St. Francis (PA), who registered a 636 to beat the old mark by 44 strokes.

3/21/2008 "A Season to Remember" Ends in NCAA Tournament Setback to Second-Seeded Georgetown, 66-47 Raleigh, N.C—It was a basketball season like none other before at UMBC. But all good things must come to an end, and this memorable campaign did for the Retrievers today. They fought valiantly but fell to the second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas, 66-47, in the first round of the Midwest regional of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The sold out crowd of 19,477 and a national televised audience witnessed the scrappy and beloved Retrievers (24-9) pester the Hoyas (28-5) into 15 turnovers. However, UMBC could not crack the top defense in the nation and scored a season-low 47 points in the defeat.
