The UMBC volleyball team fell to Albany, 3-0, Friday afternoon in America East Championship semifinals in Albany, N.Y. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 13-13 on the season, while the Great Danes improved to 21-8.

Volleyball Takes on Albany in America East Semifinal Friday at Noon
Freshman Naomi Bush (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) has been named the 2009 America East Volleyball Rookie of the Year, as announced by the conference Thursday. Sophomore Alyssa Lang (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) has been named to the All-Conference Second Team for the second consecutive year, while freshman Ali Loynachan (Whitby, Ontario, Canada/Sinclair) has been named to the All-Rookie Team along with Bush.

Volleyball Takes on Albany in America East Semifinal Friday at Noon
The UMBC volleyball team takes on Albany in the America East Championship semifinals Friday at noon in Albany N.Y. The Retrievers (13-12, 5-5 AEC) are the No. 4 seed, while Albany (20-8, 10-0) is top seed.
UMBC volleyball head coach Ian Blanchard announced today that Ali Goc, Mallory McIntyre and Emily Witsaman have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Retrievers for the 2010 season.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team will kick-off the 2008 season at the William and Mary Invitational from August 29-30, head coach Ian Blanchard announced today.
2007 UMBC Women's Volleyball Prospectus Now Available
BALTIMORE--The UMBC women's volleyball team will return 11 letterwinners and add five newcomers to make up the 16-player team in 2007. Head coach Ian Blanchard will enter his third season at the helm of the women's team, while former University of California, San Diego standout Brianna Koche will assume assistant coaching responsibilities.

Freshmen Shine, But Men's Basketball Season Ends in America East Quarterfinals
West Hartford, Conn.—A pair of freshmen, wing Shawn Grant and post Adrian Satchell gave UMBC fans a promising glimpse of the future, but the seventh-seeded Retrievers dropped a 76-59 decision to second-seeded Vermont (23-9) in the quarterfinals of the 2010 America East Tournament. It was UMBC’s (4-26) first defeat to open tournament play since 2003-04, their first season in the conference.

Men's Basketball: Gilliam, Satchell Earn America East All-Conference Honors
West Hartford, Conn.—Sophomore guard Chauncey Gilliam (Columbia, Md./Brewster (N.H.) Academy) earned America East Third Team All-Conference honors, while freshman post Adrian Satchell (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) was named to the league’s All-Rookie team, it was announced at the conference’s awards reception at the University of Hartford. The seventh-seeded Retrievers meet second-seeded Vermont at 6:00 p.m. in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday.

Men's Basketball to Face Vermont in America East Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 6
The seventh-seeded UMBC Retrievers take on the second-seeded Vermont Catamounts in the quarterfinal round of the America East Tournament in West Hartford, Conn. The two league rivals meet at the U. Hartford’s Chase Family Arena in the third quarterfinal contest, which will be played at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. The winner will advance to take on the winner of No. 4 Maine vs. No. 5 New Hampshire on Sunday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. All the action of UMBC basketball will be available on the Retrievers’ flagship station, Fox 1370 AM (www.fox1370.com) with Gary Stein on the call. Video streaming is also available for the quarterfinal contest on www.americaeast.tv.
