BALTIMORE--The UMBC volleyball team travels to Albany, N.Y. for the America East Championship, starting Friday with a semifinal match-up against second-seeded Binghamton at 4 p.m. The third-seeded Retrievers have won two in a row after defeating Stony Brook and Hartford at the RAC last weekend. The other semifinal sees number one seed and host Albany against the fourth seed, Maine, at 7 p.m. The final will be Saturday at 4 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for the entire tournament at AmericaEast.com.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Freshman Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) has been named America East Volleyball Rookie of the Week and junior Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Glenlawn) was named Setter of the Week for the week ending Nov. 16. With these two honors, the Retrievers earned 12 weekly awards during the 12-week regular season.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team concluded its 2008 regular season with a 3-1 victory over Hartford at the RAC. The Retrievers improved to 18-12 and 7-5 in America East play, while the Hawks dropped to 6-25 and 0-12 in conference action. With the win, UMBC clinched the third seed in the America East Tournament to be held Nov. 21-22 in Albany, N.Y.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team will kick-off the 2008 season at the William and Mary Invitational from August 29-30, head coach Ian Blanchard announced today.
2007 UMBC Women's Volleyball Prospectus Now Available
BALTIMORE--The UMBC women's volleyball team will return 11 letterwinners and add five newcomers to make up the 16-player team in 2007. Head coach Ian Blanchard will enter his third season at the helm of the women's team, while former University of California, San Diego standout Brianna Koche will assume assistant coaching responsibilities.
11/17/2008 Greene Sets UMBC's All-Time Assist Mark, But Men's Basketball Falls at Morgan State, 67-60 Baltimore—UMBC never held the lead and shot just 37 percent from the floor, as the Retrievers fell at Morgan State, 67-60. Both teams are 1-1 on the season. Senior guard Jay Greene (Whitehall, Pa.) managed a milestone in defeat, as he became UMBC’s all-time assist leader. He needed three to surpass Dana Harris’ career total of 507 and he dished out seven in all 40 minutes of work. Senior forward Darryl Proctor (District Heights, Md.) led all scorers with 19 points, but hit only five of 17 shots from the floor.

11/17/2008 Men's Basketball Season Heats Up With Contest at Morgan State on Monday Night Two teams which reached post-season play in 2007-08 renew acquaintances tonight as UMBC (1-0) visits Morgan State (0-1) in what should be a hotly-contested game at Hill Field House. 11/15/2008 Men's Basketball Opens 2008-09 Campaign With 91-54 Victory Over Stevenson Baltimore—UMBC celebrated its 2008 championship before its season opener, then kicked off the 2008-09 season with a 91-54 win over Stevenson (Md.) University before 3,114 fans at the sultry RAC Arena.
Seniors Darryl Proctor and Jay Greene helped unveil the America East championship banner before the game and dominated play during their stints against the Mustangs. Proctor totaled 20 points and added nine rebounds and four steals in 34 minutes, while Greene, the America East Player of the Game for UMBC, added 17 points and nine assists. The 2009 Bob Cousy (Collegiate Point Guard of the Year) preseason nominee became the second player in school history to surpass 500 career assists (505) and needs just three more to become the school’s all-time leader.
