Volleyball Defeats Morgan State, Falls to Towson in Final Day of Battle of Baltimore

BALTIMORE�The UMBC volleyball team finished Day Two of the Battle of Baltimore with the same result as Day One, as the Retrievers split two matches Saturday. UMBC (2-2) defeated Morgan State, 3-0, in the final match of the day after dropping a 3-0 decision to Towson earlier in the day.

Volleyball Splits Opening Day of Battle of Baltimore to Begin 2010 Season

BALTIMORE�The UMBC volleyball team split its opening two games of the 2010 season as the Retrievers competed in Day One of the Battle of Baltimore Friday at the RAC Arena. UMBC (1-1) defeated Coppin State (0-6), 3-0, before falling to Loyola (3-2), 3-0 in the night cap.

UMBC Volleyball Opens 2010 Season with Battle of Baltimore

The UMBC Volleyball team opens the book on the 2010 season Friday, as they host the first day of the Battle of Baltimore at the RAC Arena. The Retrievers open the day with a matchup with Coppin State at noon before taking on Loyola at 6 p.m. Live stats are available for both matches, as well as live broadcasts at http://www.umbcretrievers.tv.

UMBC Volleyball Picked to Finish Third in America East Coaches Poll

The UMBC volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the Preseason America East Coaches Poll, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. The Retrievers finished with 24 points, including one first place vote. Defending conference champion Binghamton was picked to repeat with 33 points and five first place votes, while Albany was picked to finish second with 31 points and the final first place vote. New Hampshire (22), Stony Brook (20), Hartford (11) and first-year associate member Providence (6) rounded out the poll.

UMBC Volleyball Announces 2010 Schedule

The UMBC volleyball team will kick off the 2010 season with the Battle of Baltimore at the RAC Arena on Sept. 3, head coach Ian Blanchard announced today.

UMBC Volleyball Recruit Goc Earns 2010 Evelyn Holick Award, Ontario's Most Prestigious Honor

Incoming UMBC volleyball freshman Ali Goc has been named the 2010 winner of the Evelyn Holick Award, which is the Canadian province of Ontario�s most prestigious honor, by the Ontario Volleyball Association at the 18 and Under Provincial Championships at RIM Park in Waterloo, Ontario.

Volleyball Falls to Albany, 3-0, in America East Semifinal

The UMBC volleyball team fell to Albany, 3-0, Friday afternoon in America East Championship semifinals in Albany, N.Y. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 13-13 on the season, while the Great Danes improved to 21-8.

Men's Basketball Opens 13-Game Non-Conference Slate vs. High-Powered VMI on Sunday, Nov. 14
The UMBC men�s basketball team will open its 25th season of NCAA Division I competition on Sunday, Nov. 14, when the host a high-powered V.M.I. Keydets� squad at the RAC Arena. Tip-off time is set for 3:00 p.m. The contest vs. V.M.I. is the first of 13 non-conference contests for the Retrievers. The schedule is highlighted by four games vs. Baltimore-area rivals and a pair of games at Big East Conference heavyweights U. Conn (Dec. 3) and Notre Dame (Dec. 22) .

Freshmen Shine, But Men's Basketball Season Ends in America East Quarterfinals
West Hartford, Conn.�A pair of freshmen, wing Shawn Grant and post Adrian Satchell gave UMBC fans a promising glimpse of the future, but the seventh-seeded Retrievers dropped a 76-59 decision to second-seeded Vermont (23-9) in the quarterfinals of the 2010 America East Tournament. It was UMBC�s (4-26) first defeat to open tournament play since 2003-04, their first season in the conference.

Men's Basketball: Gilliam, Satchell Earn America East All-Conference Honors
West Hartford, Conn.�Sophomore guard Chauncey Gilliam (Columbia, Md./Brewster (N.H.) Academy) earned America East Third Team All-Conference honors, while freshman post Adrian Satchell (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) was named to the league�s All-Rookie team, it was announced at the conference�s awards reception at the University of Hartford. The seventh-seeded Retrievers meet second-seeded Vermont at 6:00 p.m. in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday.
