BALTIMORE—UMBC head volleyball coach Ian Blanchard announced today that Sarah Fries, a former graduate assistant and four-year standout at Clarion University, has been named assistant coach.

5/4/2009 UMBC Recruit Loynachan Wins Canadian National Championship with Club Team, Durham Attack Black
UMBC incoming freshman Ali Loynachan and her club team, Durham Attack Black, won the Canadian National Championship for the fifth consecutive time. The Oshawa, Ontario, team defeated the Calgary Dinos in the title game, 25-11 and 26-24. Durham Attack Black won the national title at the 14-Under, 15U, 16U, 17U and 18U levels. Loynachan was named to the National Tournament Championship All-Star team, which is the equivalent to being named All-Canada in club volleyball. She will be joining the Retrievers in the fall for the 2009 season.
The UMBC volleyball team was recognized by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon with public recognition for its latest multiyear Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). UMBC volleyball posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in NCAA Division I volleyball. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team will kick-off the 2008 season at the William and Mary Invitational from August 29-30, head coach Ian Blanchard announced today.
2007 UMBC Women's Volleyball Prospectus Now Available
BALTIMORE--The UMBC women's volleyball team will return 11 letterwinners and add five newcomers to make up the 16-player team in 2007. Head coach Ian Blanchard will enter his third season at the helm of the women's team, while former University of California, San Diego standout Brianna Koche will assume assistant coaching responsibilities.

6/29/2009 Men's Basketball Inks Virginia All-State Guard Jamar Wertz Baltimore, Md.—Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe announced today that Jamar Wertz (Suffolk, Va./King’s Fork) has signed a grant-in-aid form and will attend UMBC in the fall of 2009. The Virginia High School Coaches Association Group and the Virginia Associated Press named Wertz to the AAA Second-Team All-State boys’ basketball squad after the 2008-09 season. The six-foot-three, 185-lb. wing guard averaged 14.2 points per game last season and helped the Bulldogs (31-1) win the title of the VHSL boys’ basketball state championship.
