Box Score ALBANY – UMBC softball won its fourth consecutive America East Conference series of the season, edging host UAlbany, 3-2, in eight innings at UAlbany Field.
Senior
Madison Wilson continued her clutch RBI run, belting the game-winning home run to right field to lead off the eighth inning. It was her fourth long ball of the season.
Graduate student
Courtney Coppersmith entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and allowed only one base-runner to earn her third win (3-2) of the season.
Sophomore
Kya Matter pitched the first six frames and only allowed one earned run against an outstanding hitting club.
UMBC (17-12, 9-2) remained in first place in the America East Conference, two games ahead of Binghamton. UAlbany fell to 14-15, 5-5.
The Great Danes took a 1-0 lead in the third, scoring a two-out, unearned run.
UMBC would take the lead in their half of the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs with two outs.
Jaedyn McKeon doubled down the left field line and Coppersmith raced all the way home from first base to knot the score at 1-1. Then, Granzow laced her second double of the game, cracking one off the center field fence to plate McKeon.
The Great Danes took advantage of an obstruction call which wiped out a caught stealing and tied the game at 2-2 on a two-out infield single.
Wilson and junior outfielder
Macy Granzow each had a pair of hits for the Retrievers. Granzow reached base all three times to bat, with two doubles and a walk.
UMBC heads to College Park, Md. for a Wednesday, April 19 contest. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
