Volleyball Moves to 5-0 in Conference Play with Sweep of New Hampshire

BALTIMORE-- The UMBC Volleyball team jumped out to big leads in each of the first two sets, and once again used a suffocating defense en route to a sweep (25-11, 25-13, 25-19) of visiting New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.

It was the first home victory for UMBC (10-10, 5-0 AE) over New Hampshire (9-9, 2-3 AE) since November 4, 2011. 

The Retrievers remained undefeated in conference play and held UNH to -.009 hitting, the second straight match in which they held their opponent to negative hitting. 

Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) finished with am match-best 13 kills, and added six digs and 3 blocks. Grace Rigsbee (Suwanee, Ga.) had 12 kills on .429 hitting with three digs and two blocks. Andjelija Draskovic (Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia) finished with 31 assists, 8 digs and a block, while Aysia Miller (Mililani Hawaii) had eight kills on .375 with seven digs and three assists.

Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) had four kills and two blocks, while Beste Ayhan (Istanbul, Turkey) had five kills (with no errors) on .455 hitting with five digs and three blocks. Loren Teter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) had a match-high 15 digs.

UMBC never trailed in either of the first two sets, jumping out to 5-0 and 7-0 leads, respectively, in them. UNH took its first lead of the entire match at 1-0 in the third, the points then alternated until UMBC scored two in a row to take a 4-3 lead. The teams would again alternate points until the Retrievers took the lead for good at 6-5. The Wildcats cut the deficit to 10-9, but a 6-0 UMBC run put the match out of reach. 

The Retrievers continue their homestand when they host Binghamton on Friday night at 7 p.m., they then welcome NJIT to campus on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.
