UMBC Athletics Staff Bios
Whitney Smith joined the recreation and physical education staff as the coordinator of club sports in September 2012. She is in charge of coordinating and organizing the recreational club sports and oversees the summer day camp.
Smith spent the past two summers as an intern with UMBC Athletics, serving as an activities coordinator of the summer day camp. Smith helped plan daily programs and trained counselors for physical education activities.
Prior to her time with the Retrievers, Smith served as a graduate assistant coach for the Ithaca College womenís basketball team. Her responsibilities for the Empire 8 champions included film breakdown and individual training sessions.
Smith graduated in 2011 from the College at Brockport with a bachelorís degree in sports management and earned a New York state certification in physical education. In 2012, Smith graduated from Ithaca College with a Masterís of Science degree in sports management.
While at Brockport, Smith was a member of the women's basketball team, where she was a two-time Second Team All-Conference player and a 1,000-point scorer. During that time she also gained experience, interning at the University of Rochester in the spring of 2010, assisting in event management and day-to-day operations at Goergen Athletic Facility, and completed a stint at the Eastside Family YMCA of Rochester.
