Biography

Jaclyn Goldbarg has joined the Retrievers’ staff as an assistant coach in July 2009.

“We’re very excited about the addition of Jaclyn to our team,” head coach Phil Stern said. “She comes from a great basketball background and will make an immediate impact on our program.”

A shooting guard, Goldbarg was a four-year letterwinner at Brown University, where she averaged 1.8 points and 0.7 rebounds in 28 games during an injury-marred career. She received the 2008 Harriet Sheridan Leadership Award, which recognizes the teammate who has the greatest impact on overall team unity, sacrificing personal gain for the benefit of the team’s goals.

Goldbarg spent her senior season of 2008-09 as a student assistant coach, helping with player development, practice, training and film breakdown, and she took part in the WBCA’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” workshop this spring.

Goldbarg also spent four summers coaching high school basketball at Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, where she served as the head junior varsity coach in 2006-07 and the assistant varsity coach in 2008.

“I’m really excited to start my coaching career here at UMBC, where there is so much to offer in terms of athletics and academics at the same time,” Goldbarg said. “I want to thank Coach Stern for giving me this opportunity.”

A native of El Cajon, Calif., Goldbarg was a WBCA High School All-America nominee and graduated as Grossmont High School’s all-time leader in points (1,447) and assists (580). She also led San Diego County in scoring as a senior with 28.2 points per game.

Goldbarg earned her bachelor’s degree in human biology with an emphasis in brain and behavior from Brown in May 2009.
