Stony Brook, N.Y.—Junior Sophia Cologer (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was the top Retriever finisher, placing fifth at the America East Championships on Saturday. UMBC as a team took fifth place overall.
Cologer finished the 5k race with a time of 18:46. Her fifth place finish earned her First Team All-Conference honors on Saturday. Senior Sarah Daly (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) was the next Retriever across the tape, finishing in 19:30. The other Retriever scorers were seniors Katie Govatos (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis/Florida Southern), Angelina Oputa (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Mary Katherine Kulp (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal). Govatos took 26th place with a time of 19:36. Just behind her was Oputa in 28th place with a time of 19:45. Kulp crossed the tape in 30th with a time of 19:47.
Christina Melian of Stony Brook won the race with a time of 17:53. New Hampshire won the team championship for the third consecutive year.
The Retrievers will be back in action at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Friday, Nov. 13. This year's regionals will be held at Princeton with the women's race starting at noon.
