Retrievers Have Strong Showing at Paul Short Invitational

Bethlehem, Pa.—UMBC cross country took to Lehigh University for the 42nd annual Paul Short Invitational on Friday. The men took 12th out of 27 teams, while the women were 20th of 35.

The men were paced once again by Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson), who took eighth overall with a time of 24:13. Austin Hayslett (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) and Jon Luckin (Parkton, Md./Hereford) finished 43rd and 68th respectively for the Retrievers, crossing the finish line in times of 24:55 and 25:12.

Other top UMBC finishers were Rhys Burgett (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Urgy Eado (Rockville, Md./Thomas Wootton/Wesley), who finished in times of 25:33 and 25:49 respectively.

On the women's side, senior Sarah Daly (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and junior Sophia Cologer (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) placed in the top 20 to lead the Retrievers. Daly finished in 13th in a time of 20:55, while Cologer placed 18th in 21:01.

The other scorers for the women were Chelsea Vane (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), Angelina Oputa (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton), and Mary Katherine Kulp (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal). Vane crossed the line with a time of 22:20, while Oputa and Kulp finished in 22:41 and 23:06.

UMBC will be back on the course at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, October 17.
