Van Noord's Big Match Not Enough as Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to Delaware

Baltimore, Md. -- Junior Anouk Van Noord (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Otero Junior College) picked up 12 kills (.600 hitting) with no errors to lead a potent UMBC offense, but visiting Delaware prevailed in four sets (18-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15) over the hosts in the final match of the Retriever Challenge.

The Retrievers victory in the first set ended Delaware's (5-1) streak of consecutive sets won at 12.

UMBC (2-4) hit .319 for the match, but the Blue Hens were a bit better, finishing with a .333 hitting percentage.

For the second straight week, Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.) was named to the All-Tournament team. The freshman outside hitter finished with 13 kills which tied her with Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) for team-best in the match. Freeman also finished with a team-high 12 digs, while Conteh had nine.

Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) collected 42 assists and nine digs, while Van Noord and Conteh each added two blocks.

The Retrievers will face Charlotte at 10:30 a.m. on Friday before facing Canisius at 5 p.m. UMBC will close out the weekend with a 2 p.m. Saturday match against the host Greyhounds.
