Volleyball Set to Close 2018 with Two Matches on ESPN Networks; Honor Seniors on Sunday

Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC Volleyball team will return home on Friday to finish their 2018 regular season. The Retrievers host Stony Brook on Friday, November 9th at 7:00 pm, and Hartford on Sunday, November 11th. Friday's match can be seen on ESPN3, while Sunday's contest can be seen on ESPN+. Sunday's match will be Senior Day, in which the team will honor Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico), Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.), Krystia Negrón (San Juan, Puerto Rico), and Taylor Alexander (Detroit, Mich.).

Scouting the Retrievers:

UMBC (6-18, 2-8) is coming off of a heartbreaking weekend,in which they lost two matches, each in five sets.. Despite the losses, the Retrievers had a strong performances from Watson, who notched her third straight year with 400 digs, the only person in UMBC history to do so. Negrón was able to have a strong performance on Friday as she notched another double-double with 32 assists and 13 digs. Redshirt sophomore Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded a career high 52 assists along with 13 digs against UNH on Sunday.  

Scouting the Seawolves:

Stony Brook (17-8, 10-0) enters the last weekend of the season on a 13-match winning streak and already clinched the No.1 overall seed and at least a share of the America East regular season title. Last Sunday, the Seawolves were able to sweep Albany, which was their sixth sweep in their last seven matches, and their 12th overall. Emily Costello was able to put together 18 digs, which tied a season-high. Teammate Leanne Sakowicz tallied 33 assists, which made it so she has had 30+ assists in eight of her last nine matches.

Scouting the Hawks:

Hartford (10-12, 3-7) will attempt to get out of their slump, as they have dropped their last six sets in back-to back sweeps. Their most recent one being against Albany last Friday. Despite the loss, the Hawks were able to have a solid line from Megan Anderson, in which she had 35 assists, nine digs, two aces, and a block. Alex Lucero was able to put up 13 digs, while Jenna Bridges had 12 kills and three blocks. Before Hartford travels to Baltimore, they will make a pit-stop as they will face Binghamton on Friday, November 9th.
