Volleyball's Rally Falls Short in Lowell

Lowell, Mass. -- The UMBC Volleyball team started off hot, but couldn't hold off host UMass Lowell as the River Hawks rallied for a five-set win (14-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-13) in an America East match-up on Friday night.

Sophomore Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) finished with a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) also helped with 13 kills and seven digs, Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) had 11 kills for the Retrievers (6-17, 2-7).

Krytsia Negrón (San Juan, Puerto Rico), finished with 13 digs and 32 assists in the first three-and-a-half sets and was relieved by Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) who finished with 10 assists and three digs.  

Senior libero Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.) had 20 digs and three assists, while Becca Elrod (Cary, Ill.) had six kills and five blocks.

UMBC gets back to action at New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.
