Volleyball Returns Home to Face UAlbany on Friday

The UMBC Volleyball team returns home after a three game road-trip to face Albany on Friday October 26th at 7:00 pm at the UMBC Event Center.

Scouting the Retrievers:

UMBC (6-15, 2-5) is hoping on to continue its strong play as they are coming off two wins in their last three matches. Last Friday against Binghamton, the Retrievers dropped the first set, but took the next three in a four set win (22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-20). Krystia Negrón (San Juan, Puerto Rico) entered in the second set, but was still able to lead UMBC with 35 assists and 16 digs, for her ninth double-double of the season. Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) was able to record her 13th double-double of the season, with 13 kills and 16 digs. She also recorded four blocks.

Scouting the Great Danes

UAlbany (11-8, 5-1) is coming off its seventh win in its last eight matches, but this will be their first match in the 12 days. On Sunday October 14th, the Great Danes overcame New Hampshire, taking them down 3-2. Akuabata Okenwa was able to notch a double-double with 19 digs and 16 kills. Anderson Vaughan was able to set a career-high 48 assists. Nicole Otero also had a strong performance with 32 digs.

The Retrievers will finish up the road portion of the schedule when they travel north next weekend to face UMass Lowell on Friday November 2nd at 7:00 pm, and then finish the weekend with a Sunday matinee against New Hampshire at 1:00 pm.
