Sophomore middle blocker Becca Elrod's (Cary, Ill.) career performance at Binghamton last Friday earned her America East Co-Player of the Week honors, while freshman Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) used a double-double to earn her second straight, and third overall, America East Rookie of the Week honor, the Conference announced on Tuesday.
In just her third appearance of the season (second start), Elrod finished with 10 kills on .692 hitting with a conference-high eight blocks as the UMBC rallied for a four-set win. Elrod made her first appearance of the season last Friday in the five-set victory over Hartford. Coach Cristina Robertson inserted the sophomore in the third set while the Retrievers were down 2-0, and UMBC rebounded to win the next three sets and the match.
Krenik continued the stellar start to her career with 10 kills and 11 digs, her fourth double-double in her last five matches, and sixth overall. The Retrievers are back home for the first time in 19 days, when they host UAlbany on Friday night at 7 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at tickets.umbc.edu.
