The UMBC Volleyball team will hit the road for a weekend getaway, facing Hartford on Friday at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Sunday 1 p.m. matinee at defending America East champion Stony Brook.
Scouting the Retrievers:
UMBC (4-14, 0-4) is coming off a heartbreaking weekend, where they fell by a total of six points combined over three sets to New Hampshire and then lost in five sets to UMass Lowell. Despite the rough weekend, senior Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.) had a strong weekend, where she averaged 23.5 digs over the two games. Freshman Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) was also able to post great numbers, with back-to-back doubles, which included a career-high 17 digs against UML. Redshirt sophomore Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) made her first start of the season on Sunday and posted a career-high 37 assists.
Scouting the Hawks:
Hartford (8-8, 1-3) are coming off being swept at UAlbany. They are hoping for Megan Anderson to continue on her strong play, as she had posted at least 20 assists in every match this year. The Hawks also lean on Jenna Bridges on defense as she has 13 consecutive double-digit dig performances.
Scouting the Seawolves:
Stony Brook (10-8, 4-0), the defending America East Tournament champion, have won six straight, including four sweeps. Leanne Sakowicz had 47 assists in their last match against UAlbany, and has had eight 40-assist performances this year, with three coming in the last four matches. The Seawolves also had a strong performance from Emily Costello as the grad-student was able to put up her fourth double-double of the year, with 13 kills, on .270 hitting, and 12 digs. Before they face UMBC, the Seawolves will host Binghamton on Friday October 12th at 6:30 p.m.
The Retrievers will continue on their road-trip on Friday October 19th, when they return to upstate New York to face Binghamton at 7:00 p.m.
