Baltimore, Md. -- The UMBC Volleyball team took the first two sets, but could not hold off a ferocious UMass Lowell rally, as the visiting River Hawks eeked out a five set win (20-25, 12-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-13) on Sunday afternoon at the UMBC Event Center.
Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) got her first start of the season and notched a double-double with 37 assists and 17 digs. Senior libero Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.) had a team-best 23 digs for UMBC (4-14, 0-4), while Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) and Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) each had double-doubles. Krenik had 15 kills and a career-high 17 digs, while Freeman had 19 kills and 12 digs.
Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md.) tied a season-high with 16 digs and added nine kills. Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) had eight kills and eight blocks, while junior middle blocker Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) had five kills and five blocks.
Malia Randolph had a triple-double for UMass Lowell (2-16, 1-4), finishing with 10 kills, 19 assists and 15 digs.
UMBC travels to Hartford and defending conference champion Stony Brook next weekend.
