Watson Ties Program Record For 30-Dig Matches as Volleyball Falls in Four Sets at UAlbany

Albany, N.Y. -- Senior libero Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.) tied a program record with her third career 30 dig game, but the UMBC Volleyball team fell in four sets at defending America East regular season champion UAlbany on Sunday afternoon (22-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-17).

Watson's 30 digs now give her ownership of seven of the top 10 single game dig perfeormances in program history. Junior middle blocker Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) had 10 kills on .304 hitting, while Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) had another double-double, finishing with 14 kills and 14 digs for UMBC (4-12, 0-2)

Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) had nine kills and three blocks, and Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) finished with eight kills. Krytsia Negrón (San Juan Puerto Rico) pitched in 29 assists and Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 12 assists of her own.

Akuabata Okenwa paced the UAlbany (8-7, 2-0) offense, finishing with a game-best 16 kills.

The Retrievers return home for two America East matches next week as they welcome New Hampshire and UMass Lowell to the UMBC Event Center on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
