Volleyball Returns to America East Play on Sunday at Defending Regular Season Champ UAlbany

The UMBC Volleyball team will travel to Albany, NY, as they return to conference play for the remainder of the season, facing the 2017 America East Regular Season Champions, Albany, on September 30th at 2 p.m at Alumni Gym.

Scouting the Retrievers:

UMBC (4-11, 0-1) are coming off a strong performance, where they swept cross-town foe, Coppin State, on Tuesday night. The Retrievers were able to take a back-and-forth first set, 29-27, and then cruised from that point on. The Retrievers were able to prevail with a strong performance by junior middle blocker Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) who recorded 11 kills with no errors on a .458 hitting rate. Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.)  was able to notch a career-high four aces, along with nine kills and eight digs.

Scouting the Great Danes:

UAlbany (6-7) as well are coming off a dominant sweep (25-13, 25-15, 25-9), against Siena as they returned for a three-game homestand. Freshman Grace Cozad notched a career-best 13 kills on a .417 hitting rate. Fellow freshman Anderson Vaughan set a career high 39 assists, and classmate Anna Chalupa set a career-high 13 digs. UAlbany had a bye the first weekend of conference play, so it will its first AE match of the season on Friday night when it hosts Binghamton.
