Reed Leads Offense in Volleyball's Sweep of Coppin State

Baltimore, Md. -- Junior middle blocker Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) had 11 kills with no errors on .458 hitting and three blocks to lead the UMBC Volleyball team to a sweep of local rival Coppin State (29-27, 25-13, 25-20) on Tuesday night at the UMBC Event Center.

Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had eight kills and ten digs for UMBC (4-11, 0-1). Krytsia Negrón (San Juan Puerto Rico) 35 assists, six more than Coppin State (4-14) had in the entire match. Outside Hitter Jamie Wood (Satellite Beach, Fla.) had four kills and two blocks in her first career match at middle blocker, subbing in for an injured Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico).

Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) had a career high four aces and finished with a nine kills and eight digs. Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.) finished with 11 digs, and Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md.) returned from a couple game absence with six kills and nine digs. Negrón added three kills and three digs, while Freeman had three blocks.

The Retrievers return to America East play when they travel to upstate New York for a 2 p.m. Sunday match at UAlbany.
