Volleyball Welcomes Binghamton to Start Conference Play

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC volleyball team returns home for the first time in nearly two weeks, as they host Binghamton to kickoff America East Conference play on Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m. at the UMBC Event Center.

Scouting the Retrievers:

UMBC (3-10) is coming off a midweek loss to Howard on Tuesday. Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) lead the Retrievers offense with a team best nine kills. Krytsia Negrón (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 20 assists, four digs, and three aces, as three different Retrievers had four or more blocks during the match.

Freeman is leading the team offensively for the season, leading the team in kills with 170 and is the only player on the team averaging more than three kills per set. Paola Rojas is leading the team in hitting with a .320 clip. Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) has a team high 206 digs to lead the Retrievers on defense.

Scouting the Bearcats:

Binghamton (2-11) is returning to action after going 1-2 last weekend at the Sacred Heart Hampton Inn Invitational, picking up their only win against NJIT. Erin Shultz leads the offense with 122 kills on the season, while Tyra Wilson as a team high .229 hitting percentage. Samantha Gioiosa leads the Bearcats defense with a team high 151 digs.

UMBC will remain at home and take on local rival Coppin State on Tuesday, September 25. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
