Watson Paces Defense in Volleyball's Loss at Howard

Washington, D.C. -- Senior libero Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md.) finished with 16 digs, three assists and a rare kill, but the UMBC Volleyball team was swept (27-25, 25-22, 26-24) at three-time defending MEAC champion Howard (6-8) on Tuesday night.  

Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) finished with a team-best nine kills to go with nine digs, and Krytsia Negrón (San Juan Puerto Rico) added 20 assists, four digs and three aces for the Retrievers (3-10). Jamie Wood (Satellite Beach, Fla.) and Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) each had five blocks, and Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) had four. paige Kreinik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had seven kills and two blocks, while Wood and Rojas had three kills each.

UMBC returns to the UMBC Event Center on Friday night to open America East play against Binghamton at 7 pm. Friday will be the annual Maddie Bingaman Memorial Match, as UMBC will honor the life of  the former Retriever before the match begins.
