Negrón Earns Third Consecutive Double-Double as Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to Tulsa

Nashville, Tenn. -- Senior setter Krytsia Negrón (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had a match-best 38 assists to go with 18 digs and four blocks as the UMBC Volleyball team fell in four sets (25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21) to Tulsa in the final match of the Bruiser Showcase at Belmont University on Saturday afternoon.

Kristin Watson (Bowie, MD) tied Negrón with 18 digs and added three assists and two aces, while Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) again paced the offense with 16 kills and 12 digs.  

Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) had a huge game, finishing with 10 kills on a .400 hitting percentage and five blocks, while Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) and Brooke Hayden (Mt. Airy, Md.) each contributed with seven kills and 10 digs, respectively. After the match, Rojas was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Freshmen Gabrielle Curran (Naples, Fla.) and Jamie Wood (Satellite Beach, Fla.) each saw extended playing time for the first time this season and made the most of it. Curran had 11 digs while Wood finished with three kills and three digs. Classmate Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had four kills and six digs.

The Retrievers return to Baltimore to host the Charm City Challenge next Friday. The 10 am match against Robert Morris not only kicks-off the tournament, but it will be the first volleyball match played in the brand new UMBC Event Center.
