Volleyball Inks Two Florida Natives for 2018

The UMBC Volleyball team announced the signing of two Florida natives to National Letters of Intent.

Outside Hitters Gabby Curran and Jamie Wood will join the program for the 2018 season.

Curran competed at Gulf Coast High School and for USA South, Tribe, and Boomers Volleyball clubs. She is a two time USA HP National Champion for Team Florida in 2013 and 2014, and junior Olympic All-American in 2014. She also was a four time District Champion and the 2016 Naples Daily News Collier County Player of the Year. In addition to being a two time All Regional Team in 2016 and 2017, she was a two time member of the All Conference Team in 2016 and 2017. In addition, Curran was the two time Offensive MVP at Gulf Coast, leading the team in kills in 2016 and 2017. She had the highest hitting percentage in Collier County in 2016, and that same year was named the Impact Player of the Year at USA South. She has been nominated for the yet to be announced 2017 Naples Daily News Collier County Player of the Year Nominee. Academically, Curran is a member of the National Honor Society and participates in Model UN and Student Government

Wood, who also plays Right Side, competed for Satellite High in Satellite Beach, Florida. She played varsity all four years for her high school career and won offensive MVP her sophomore year before winning all-around MVP each of the next two seasons.. Her senior year she won MVP for the south Brevard County conference and was named to the all Cape Coast Conference team all four years of high school. She has played club volleyball for OVA/TBVA for the 15-18's season.
