Baltimore, MD – The UMBC Volleyball team will honor seniors Marissa Duncan (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) and Ashley Ramos (Orlando, Fl./Liberty/Monroe JC) this weekend while fighting for a spot in the America East Conference Tournament against UMass Lowell and New Hampshire.
Scouting the Retrievers:
UMBC (13-11, 5-5 America East) enters the weekend one game behind Stony Brook and New Hampshire for a spot in the conference tournament. The Retrievers are currently on a four-game losing streak.
Last weekend, junior Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) continued her strong play at the libero position, recording 37 digs over the two matches last weekend, averaging 5.29 digs per set. Ramos recorded a team-best 10 kills in their match against Albany, while redshirt junior Paola Rojas (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) provided a match-best 18 kills on .533 hitting against Binghamton.
Watson continues to lead the conference in digs, averaging 5.39 digs per set. Sophomore Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo./Grand View) leads the America East in blocks with an average of 1.14 per set, while Rojas is third with 0.97 blocks per set. Rojas also is sixth in the conference with 2.90 kills per set, and is hitting .264, which places her seventh in the conference.
Scouting the River Hawks:
UMass Lowell (5-19, 0-10 AE) is coming off a two-loss weekend against Stony Brook and Iona.
Katherine Claybaugh leads the team with 255 kills, and averages 3.23 kills per set, which places her in fourth in the conference. Delaney Mendez has a team-best 450 assists.
Lindsay Visvardis has a team-high 384 digs and is third in the conference with 4.57 digs per set.
Scouting the Wildcats:
New Hampshire (11-13, 6-4 AE) enters the weekend off a five-set victory at Stony Brook.
Hannah Petke and Emma Patlovich both received America East honors this past week, with Petke being named Player of the Week and Patlovich being named Rookie of the Week.
Patlovich also leads the Wildcats in assists with 501. Kennedi Smith leads the team with 279 kills, while Logan Welti leads the way on defense with 377 digs.
Inside the Matchups:
UMBC leads UMass Lowell in the all-time series with a 9-0 record, with the last match being a 3-0 victory for the Retrievers at UMass Lowell. UMBC trails New Hampshire 10-20 in the all-time series, winning their last match, 3-2 at New Hampshire.
