Baltimore, MD – The UMBC Volleyball team (13-8, 5-2 America East) welcomes Stony Brook to the RAC Friday evening for their second meeting of the season.
Scouting the Retrievers:
UMBC comes off a split weekend with a win against Hartford on Friday and a loss against conference-leading Albany on Sunday. The Retrievers received 15 kills from freshman Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's) in the win over Hartford, and they received 27 digs from junior captain Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) against Albany.
On the season, Freeman leads the team with 214 kills. Junior Krytsia Negron (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio Adianez) leads the team with 595 assists and ranks second in the conference with 10.08 assists per set.
Defensively, Watson leads the way with 319 digs and ranks first in the conference with 5.32 digs per set. Sophomore Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo./Grand View) currently leads the conference in blocks with 1.20 blocks per set.
Scouting the Seawolves:
Stony Brook (13-9, 3-3 AE) is coming off a bye week after not playing last weekend. Two weekends ago, they went 0-2 with losses to both Binghamton and Albany, both on the road.
Emily Costello leads Stony Brook on offense with 235 kills on the season, while LeAnne Sakowicz leads in assists with 897. Sackowicz is also currently first in the America East with 10.43 assists per set. Kiani Kerstetter has 399 total digs on the year, and averages 4.64 digs per set, placing her second in the conference.
Inside the Matchup:
UMBC dropped their first meeting with Stony Brook this year, getting swept (25-15, 25-21, 25-19) in New York. Overall, UMBC is 14-16 against Stony Brook.
