The UMBC Volleyball team (11-5, 2-2) begins a four game road swing with matches against Hartford and UMass Lowell this weekend.
The Retrievers will be in Connecticut to face the Hawks on Friday at 7 p.m., before travelling to UMass Lowell for a Sunday matchup at noon.
Earlier this week, sophomore libero Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md/Eleanor Roosevelt) was named America East Defensive Specialist of the Week for the second time this season.
Watson led the league with 6.14 digs per set last week, while anchoring a Retriever defense that held opponents to a .147 hitting percentage. She had 29 digs on Friday in a four set loss to Albany and added another 14 in a sweep of Binghamton on Sunday.
Scouting the Hawks: Hartford (4-13, 1-3) enters the match having lost three-consecutive America East contests. Paulina Modestow leads the offense, averaging 3.09 kills per set (204 total) on a .160 hitting percentage. Astrid Mangual is the assist and dig leader for the Hawks, averaging 8.47 assist per set (559 overall) and 155 digs (2.35 per set).
Scouting the River Hawks: UMass Lowell (5-14, 0-4) will enter their Friday night home match against Stony Brook on an 11-game losing streak. Frershman Katherine Claybaugh leads the team with 3.26 kills per set, and is third in total kills (140). Sophomore setter Delaney Mendez has a team-best 431 assists (6.73 per set), while classmate Lindsey Visvardis leads UML with 291 digs (3.99 per set).
