Volleyball Swept at New Hampshire Friday Night

Durham, N.H. -- Three-time defending America East champion New Hampshire swept the UMBC Volleyball team (25-19, 25-18, 25-14) on Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.

The Retrievers (10-4, 1-1) were lead offensively by Zoya Trendafilova (Sofia, Bulguria/Elisaveta Bagryana). The senior outside hitter had 10 kills on a .417 hitting percentage and added a dig and a block.

Claudia Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) tallied 25 assists and eight digs, while classmate Kristin Watson (Bowie, Md/Eleanor Roosevelt) contributed a game-best 16 digs at libero.

"Matches like this serve as a good opportunityto take a closer look at what went wrong and make significant improvements" said head coach Ian Blanchard "Hopefully the next time we play, we will be healthier and execute at a higher level. I am still very confident in this team and the potential it has to continue improving"

The Wildcats (8-8, 1-0) hit .393 in the match and were paced by Demi Muses' 15 kills (.406)

UMBC is back in the friendly confines of the RAC for two homecoming games next weekend. They will host Albany at 5 p.m. on Friday to kickoff the Retriever Rally, and then welcome Binghamton on Sunday at 1 p.m. in their Power in Pink game.
