    This past weekend, the UMBC Volleyball team held its annual Alumni Weekend, which included a “Remembering the Retrievers” Banquet. On Saturday, alumna and current players took part in an alumni game, followed by the end-of-the-year celebration on Sunday, May 1st.
  • Volleyball Welcomes Emily Panchak and Franchesca Reed to Recruiting Class of 2016

    UMBC Volleyball Head Coach Ian Blanchard announced on Tuesday the signing of two student athletes, Emily Panchak and Franchesca Reed to the 2016 recruting class. Reed graduates high school this spring while Panchak will transfer from Wichita State and be able to compete immediately with four years of eligibilty remaining.

    UMBC Head Volleyball Coach Ian Blanchard and his staff announced the signing of a pair of student-athletes for the 2016 season. Karla Santos and Ashley Ramos will be joining the Retrievers, who finished 2015 with a 12-14, 6-6 AE record.
  • Morgen Named America East Rookie of the Year; Pair of Retrievers Earn Conference Honors

    Freshmen Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) and Maddie Schneider (Olathe, Kan./Olathe Northwest) earned America East All-Conference recognition, the conference announced on Thursday night. Morgen was named Rookie of the Year, as well as earning spots on the All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team. Schneider earned a spot on the All-Rookie team on Thursday.

    UMBC volleyball freshman Maddie Schneider (Olathe, Kan./Olathe Northwest) earned her fourth America East Rookie of the Week honor, the conference announced Monday. Schneider helped lead the Retrievers to a 1-1 week to finish the season.
  • Retrievers Drop 3-0 Decision to New Hampshire on Senior Day

    UMBC volleyball saw their regular season come to a close with a 3-0 loss to New Hampshire on Sunday. The Retrievers were led by senior Sherelle Walker (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) who had 13 kills, hitting .450 for the day. The loss drops the Retrievers to 12-14, 6-6 AE on the year.
  • Volleyball Blanks Hartford, 3-0, Moves Into Third Place in America East

    BALTIMORE – UMBC freshman Maddie Schneider (Olathe, Kan.) put down 15 kills on just 24 attempts as the host Retrievers blanked Hartford, 3-0, in a critical America East Conference volleyball match at the RAC Arena.
  • UMBC Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season This Weekend Against Hartford and New Hampshire

    The Retrievers host Hartford and New Hampshire on the final weekend of the regular season. The two matches with the Hawks and Wildcats will have playoff implications, as the Retrievers are fighting with Stony Brook and Binghamton for the final two playoff spots in the upcoming championships. UMBC will honor their three seniors; Paige Miller (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), Sherelle Walker (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and Krystal Williams (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) prior to the match with New Hampshire on Sunday.
  • Makenzie Morgen Named Nominee for America East Fan’s Choice Player of the Year

    UMBC volleyball freshman Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) has been nominated for the America East Fan’s Choice Player of the Year voting, which takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and runs through Tuesday, Nov. 17. Voting will take place on the America East website starting Wednesday.
  • Morgen Leads with Seven Kills; Retrievers Fall 3-0 to Albany on Sunday

    UMBC volleyball dropped their second straight match, 3-0 on Sunday to the Great Danes. Freshman Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) led the team with seven kills and nine digs. The loss drops the Retrievers to 11-13, 5-5 AE on the year.

    UMBC volleyball suffered a 3-1 setback to the Bearcats on Friday night. UMBC was led by freshman Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) with 17 kills and 11 digs. The Retrievers fall to 11-12, 5-4 AE on the year.

    UMBC volleyball travels to Binghamton on Friday and Albany on Sunday in their final two road contest of the year. The Retrievers are coming off a 3-0 win against UMass Lowell on Sunday, and are riding a three game winning streak. A win against the Bearcats will clinch a spot for UMBC in the America East Tournament in a couple weeks. The Retrievers come into the weekend at 11-11, 5-3 AE.
  • Dawgs Extend Win Streak to Three, Defeat UMass Lowell 3-0 on Sunday

    UMBC volleyball got a big contribution from senior Sherelle Walker (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) on Sunday with 11 kills and six blocks. The Retrievers defeated the River Hawks 3-0 (25-10, 26-24, 25-20) to improve to 11-11, 5-3 AE on the year.

    For the second consecutive week, and third time overall, freshman Maddie Schneider (Olathe, Kan./Olathe Northwest) earned America East Rookie of the Week honors. The Kansas native helped the Retrievers to a 3-1 win against Stony Brook on Sunday in the team’s lone match for the week. The win improved UMBC to 10-11, 4-3 AE on the year, and a tie for third in the conference standings.

    UMBC volleyball hung tough with the first place and two-time defending America East Champion New Hampshire, but the Wildcats took a 3-1 (17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 23-25) decision on Friday night. The third set win was the first set that UNH has lost in conference this season. Freshman Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) and junior Zoya Trendafilova (Sofia, Bulgaria/Elisaveta Bagryana) led the charge with 13 kills each.

    UMBC volleyball freshman Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) was named America East Rookie of the Week for the second straight week, the conference announced on Monday. Morgen led the Retrievers to a 1-1 record this past weekend, recording 30 kills and 21 digs in the two contests.

    UMBC volleyball suffered a 3-2 setback at the hands of Albany on Friday afternoon. The Retrievers and Great Danes exchanged set wins, but Albany grabbed the deciding fifth set, 15-12. Freshman Makenzie Morgen (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton East) led the way with 12 kills and ten digs, as the Retrievers fall to 7-10, 1-2 AE on the year.
