Lowell, Mass.-- The UMBC volleyball team took home a 3-0 victory on Sunday. Head coach Ian Blanchard picked up his 150th win of his career with the win on Sunday. UMBC moves to 10-11, 4-4 AE on the year.
The Retrievers found themselves down early on in the first before junior Sherelle Walker(New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) put together three kills to distance the sleeve from the River Hawks. The second stanza saw the Retrievers and River Hawks go back and forth with neither team gaining a distinct advantage. Junior Krystal Mlemchukwu (Baltimore, Md./Western Tech) took control with a kill, followed by a pair of Rojas winners to take a 15-10 lead. UMass Lowell would fight back, cutting the lead to 18-16 forcing a Retriever timeout. Back and forth the two would go, before UMBC finished off the set with a 25-22.
The final stanza saw the Retrievers jump out ahead early. Mlemchukwu and Walker led the charge, pushing UMBC out to a 9-1 lead. Walker finished off the match with a kill, winning the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.
