Volleyball Drops 3-2 Decision to New Hampshire Friday Night

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team dropped a tough five-set loss to New Hampshire, 22-25, 25-18, 12-25, 25-16, 15-6, Friday evening at the RAC Arena. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 10-16 (6-5 America East), while the Wildcats finish their season 10-17 (5-7 AEC).


Seniors Bianca Sande (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) led the Retrievers after a brief ceremony honoring them before the game. Sande pulled in a season-high 11 kills and two blocks, while Hoeks recorded her team-best 14th double-double, with 12 killls and 19 digs. Hoeks also added a season-high five service aces.


Freshman Ali Goc (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate) tallied four aces and 17 digs, while junior Allie Spaay (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) posted a double-double with 35 assists and 23 digs.


After trading the first four sets, the Wildcats hit .500 in the fifth with six kills against only one error to win the decisive set 15-6.


The Retrievers will conclude the 2010 regular season against Providence on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the RAC.
