Nwanaga Leads UMBC on Day One of Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa.—UMBC track and field kicked off the 125th Penn Relays on Thursday, led by Kelechi Nwanaga who finished fourth in the javelin. She was one of two individuals along with a relay who competed on Thursday.

Nwanaga took fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 51.64m. Eleni Zotou was the other individual performer, finishing the hammer throw in 24th with a throw of 48.20m.

The 4x100m relay team kicked off the day taking 28th place and earning a spot in tomorrow's Eastern Finals. The quartet of Erin Patrice, Amani Wallace, Asha Washington and Kara Patrice crossed the tape in a time of 47.57.

The Retrievers continue the relays tomorrow, as the day kicks off at 9 a.m. from Franklin Field.
