Track and Field Completes Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup

State College, Pa. The Retrievers brought their second straight weekend in State College to an end on Saturday, completing day two of the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup with strong results.

Seniors John Oputa and Ifa Eado led the charge for the Retrievers, taking the bronze in the 400m dash and the mile run respectively.  Eado ran a time of 4:10.55, while Oputa ran a time of 49.94, and also took fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.12.

Fellow senior James Oakley III placed fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.95, while in the 200m dash, classmate Noel Njem took seventh in the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 23.20.

Rounding out the men on the track were junior Nathan Nadal and sophomore Miles Smith.  Nadal ran a time of 8:54.43 to finish the 3,000m run in fourth, while Smith ran a time of 1:54.21 to take fifth place in the 800m run.

In the field, senior Russell Bowman took eighth place in the shot put, after recording a distance of 15.26m.

For the women, junior Amani Wallace led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 400m dash (57.85).  Classmate Yinka Alabi took eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.49. 

Senior Zoya Trendafilova came in eighth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.55m.

The Retrievers will travel to Staten Island, N.Y. to participate in the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday, February 9th.
