Track and Field Competes in NYC Gotham Cup Friday Evening

Staten Island, NY – The UMBC track and field team returned to Staten Island Friday evening to partake in the NYC Gotham Cup at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, earning, multiple top ten finishes.

Senior Courtney Mattson and junior Eric Smart both took third place in the men's and women's 5000m with times of 18:49.22 and 15:36.55 respectively to lead their teams.

Along with Mattson, freshman Collesse Daley took eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 58.64. 

Junior Erin Patrice crossed the line ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.92, while freshman Ariella Garcia ran a time of 2:21.02 in the 800m run to finish in tenth place.

In the field, senior Ricca Graham placed tenth in the weight toss with a distance of 13.27m.

After Smart, the men recorded three other top ten finishes.  Sophomore Brian Cave finished in eighth place in the 3000m run, crossing the line in 8:57.86. 

The men had a pair of ninth place finishes as well, with juniors Jamal Cody and Nathan Nadal.  Cody ran the 400m dash in 49.64, while Nadal ran the mile run in 4:22.57. 

The Retrievers will return to action next weekend at Penn State on Friday and Saturday in the Penn State National Open in State College, Pa.
