Staten Island, NY – UMBC track and field traveled to New York on Saturday to partake in the Great Dane Classic, where multiple Retrievers earned top ten finishes.
For the men, senior Ifa Eado led the way, earning silver in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.17.
Sophomore Brian Nelson finished sixth in the preliminary run of the 60 meter dash, and placed sixth in the finals with a time of 6.88. Nelson also fourth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.88.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Nelson, Jamal Cody, Andrew Daniels, and James Oakley III placed eighth off a total time of 3:21.576.
Freshman Taylor Baranoski ran a time of 4:16.14 to finish seventh in the mile run.
On the field side, senior Russell Bowman finished tenth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.70 meters.
For the women, junior Kelsey Ponton had the Retrievers' highest finish of the meet, coming in sixth in the 5000 meter run. Ponton ran a time of 18:17.53. Classmate Aliya Sharp had a strong run in the 60 meter dash, finishing eighth with a time of 7.99.
UMBC track and field will return to New York next weekend to take part in the NYC Gotham Cup in Staten Island on Friday.
