Lewisburg, Pa.—UMBC track and field had a standout day at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic on Friday. Sophia Cologer led the pack with a new school record in the 3,000m steeplechase that puts her in contention for the NCAA Prelims later in May.
Cologer took second in the event with a time of 10:28.76, resetting the school record she set last year of 10:35.59. Cindy Alms also turned in a top ten finish, taking eighth in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:44.33.
On the men's side, Matthew Kane got things started with his fifth place finish in the 1,500m run. He crossed the tape in a time of 3:56.80.
A trio of field athletes led UMBC on day one, with Christian Kallenberg leading the way with a sixth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 59.28m (194'6"). Thomas Johnson and Jacob Netschke also earned top ten finishes in the triple jump and high jump. Johnson had a jump of 14.45m (47'5") to take sixth while Netschke was eighth in the high jump at 1.97m (6'5.5").
Day two of the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, as well as the Towson Invitational begin on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
