Fairfax, Va.—UMBC track and field has several top ten finishes at the George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday. Several performances landed in the all-time top ten lists.
Andrew Daniels and Marcus Foster led the way in the 400m hurdles with eighth and tenth place finishes in times of 54.80 and 55.10. Daniels and Foster then teamed up with Erick Soetje and James Oakley III to finish second in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:17.64.
In distance, Nathan Nadal and Matthew Kane had top ten finishes on Saturday. Nadal took eighth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:53.06, while Kane placed sixth in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:54.68.
A slew of field performers finished in the top ten of their respected events, led by Thomas Johnson. Johnson took second in the triple jump (14.56m, 47'9.25") and sixth in the long jump (6.80m, 22'3.75"). Christian Kallenberg and Jacob Netschke each finished second in the javelin and high jump respectively. Kallenberg had a toss of 58.59m (192'3") while Netschke had a jump of 2.02m (6'7.5").
The women were led by the sprinters, as Amani Wallace had a pair of top ten finishes. She took seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 25.04 and ninth in the 400m dash with a time of 57.29. Funmi Daramola took eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 57.20.
Other top finishers included Tori Johnson in the 400m hurdles (ninth, 1:04.34), Madeleine Entwistle and Yinka Alabi in the 100m dash (seventh and ninth, 14.64 and 14.75 respectively), and Hannah Aris in the 3,000m steeplechase (eighth, 12:51.29).
The Retrievers are back in action on Saturday, April 15 at the Towson Invitational.
