New Orleans, La.—A pair of UMBC track and field athletes, as well as the women's team were honored by the USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches' Association) for their outstanding work on the track and in the classroom, the association announced on Monday.
The women's team made the list, checking in with a 3.02 cumulative GPA in 2014-15. The Retriever women finished in second place at the America East Championships, the best finish in program history.
Rising senior Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) earned a spot on the men's All-Academic List. To earn a spot, student-athletes must have finished the year with at least a 3.25 GPA. Omar was named America East's Most Outstanding Track Performer at the outdoor championships, after winning gold in two events. He qualified for the NCAA Regionals, placing 29th in the 5,000m.
Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara) earned a spot on the women's list for her exploits on the track and in the classroom. Fogle, who graduated in May, also earned a trip to the NCAA Regionals in the 400m hurdles where she finished 29th.
