Cologer, Fogle Earn America East All-Academic Recognition

Conference Release

Boston, Mass.—A pair of UMBC track and field student-athletes earned America East All-Academic honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Sophomore Sophia Cologer and senior Paulette Fogle earned the award following their strong performances in the classroom and on the track.

Cologer was a force in the distance events this spring. She set the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase this year with a time of 10:37.89 at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. That time made her the first Retriever female to run the event in under 11 minutes. Cologer placed fourth at the conference meet in the steeplechase, running in a time of 10:48.60.

Fogle made a name for herself this spring in the 400m hurdles. She set the school record in the event at the conference championships, becoming the first UMBC female under one minute with a time of 59.13. She was also a part of the 4x400m relay squad who finished first at the America East Championships. The quartet ran the event in 3:42.40, with Fogle running the second leg of the event. At the ECAC Championships, Fogle took home seventh in the 400m hurdles (59.51) and was a part of the school recordsetting 4x400m relay team, running the anchor leg. The foursome crossed the line in a time of 3:41.97.
