Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC track and field team opened up the 2015 Morgan State Legacy Meet with a slew of strong performances in just a handful of events. The remainder of the meet will kick off this morning at 10:00 a.m.
Alisha Beeman was the top Retriever competitor on Friday, as she sits in first place after four events of the heptathlon. Beeman took first place in the high jump and shot put portion of the event, with a jump of 1.70m and a throw of 10.92m.
Yao Adantor and John Rybak led the men in the field events, placing fourth and third respectively in the hammer throw and javelin. Yao had his best toss of 45.60m, while Rybak had a throw of 48.86m to land him in third. Jake DiBattista finished just behind Rybak in fifth place with a throw of 48.00m.
The only running event of the day was the 3,000m steeplechase. On the women's side, a trio of Retrievers finished six-seven-eight respectively. Katie Govatos took sixth with a time of 11:37.03, while Chelsea Vane was right behind her with a time of 12:02.84. Hannah Aris rounded out the field, crossing the tape in a time of 12:57.30.
