Boston, Mass.—UMBC junior Vincent Rentzsch (Oranienburg, Germany/Elite Sportschule Potsdam) and senior Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) earned America East Performers of the Week, as announced by the conference office. Both Rentzsch and Jackson had big performances at the Mason Spring Invitational this past weekend.
Rentzsch won the javelin throw with a toss of 70.36m. That throw was just 0.52m off his school record he set back in 2013. Vincent alredy put up a big mark in the javelin this year, throwing a 70.82m at the Florida Relays two weekends ago. That mark is the best in the conference this year.
Jackson earns her third award this outdoor season, after finishing second in both the 100m and 200m dashes. Mercedes finished second in the 100m with a time of 11.56 and the 200m with a time of 24.17. Both of those times are the best in the America East so far this season.
The Retrievers will head to Morgan State for the Morgan State Legacy Meet this Friday and Saturday. The annual meet will be held at Hughes Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
