Boston, Mass.—UMBC track and field senior Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtwon, Md./Huntingtown) earned America East Track Performer of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. This is her third selection of the season.
Mercedes has had a strong showing for the Retrievers in the sprints this winter. Jackson has been at the top of every 60m and 200m dash this indoor season. She was rewarded this week for her exploits at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup this past weekend. Jackson won both events at Penn State, winning the 60m dash in a time of 7.43, and the 200m dash in a time of 24.24.
The Retrievers will head to New York, N.Y. for the America East Championships next weekend, Feb. 20-21. The event will be held at the New Balance Track at the Armory. Last year, the women finished in fifth place, while Jackson earning Most Outstanding Track Performer. The men claimed fifth as well, as Albany took home first for both the men and women.
