CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC senior Deborah Adelola (Lanham, Md./Bladensburg) has been selected to the 2013-14 America East Women's Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team, the conference office announced on Thursday morning.

Adelola competed in the long sprint events for the Retrievers during the indoor season while also helping the UMBC relay teams.  At the Penn State Nationals on Feb. 1, the senior set a career-best in the 500m run by recording a time of 1:14.96, to jump up to sixth all-time in UMBC program history.

At the America East Championships at The Armory in New York, Adelola ran the third leg of the 4x400 relay for UMBC, aiding the Retrievers to a bronze medal finish with an ECAC-worthy time of 3:39.76.  She also advanced to the finals of the 500m run, qualifying third with a time of 1:15.68.  In the finals, she bettered her time to 1:15.42, finishing seventh overall.

Adelola has also achieved success in the classroom during her time in Baltimore, accumulating a 3.40 grade-point-average (GPA) while working towards a degree in psychology.  She has been named to the Dean's List three times during her academic career and has received a spot on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll following both the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

The UMBC track and field team hosts its only home meet of the season this weekend with the Big Dawg Invitational on Saturday, March 29.  The meet, which will be held at UMBC Stadium and the surrounding athletic complex, will kick-off at 10:00 a.m. with the hammer throw, with the 3,000m steeplechase starting the track events at 10:45 a.m.
