Fogle Breaks School Record on First Day of Duke Invitational

Duke Invitational Day One Results

– UMBC sophomore Paulette Fogle (Washington, D.C./Bishop McNamara) broke her own school record, finishing second in the 400m hurdles, Friday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium at the Duke Invitational. 

Fogle finished the race in a personal-record time of 1:01. 64, trailing only Johnson C. Smith's Samantha Elliott, to take second in the 400m hurdle event.  Sophomore Mary Katherine Kulp (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) also set a person-best, completing the run in 1:04.21 to move up to fourth all-time in the school record book.

For then men, freshman Hassan Omar (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) completed the 10,000m run with a personal-best time of 30:54.82.  His time qualified him for the IC4A meet in May and ranks as the second-fastest in school history.  Freshman Noah Hutton (Bel Air, Md.) placed sixth in the race and jumped to seventh all-time with his time of 31:49.86.

In the women's race, freshmen Nicole Dawson (Jessup, Md./Hammond) and Harmony Roche (Millersville, Md./Severn School) finished seventh and eighth and both met the ECAC standard.  Dawson now sits in third all-time in the school record book with a time of 37:22.84 while Roche is sixth (37:36.97).

Freshman Angelina Oputa (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) completed the 1,500m race in 4:48.94, the eighth-fastest time in UMBC history.

In the men's hammer throw, sophomore Thor Serafenas (Olney, Md./Good Counsel/Clemson) finished third with a throw of 55.79m (183'0").  Juniors Yao Adantor (Laurel, Md./Reservoir/Morgan St,/Maryland) and Ray Stinsman III (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) placed seventh and ninth, respectively.

Freshman Jennifer Nelson (Plainfield, Conn./Plainfield) recorded a personal-best throw of 40.22m (131'11") in the women's competition.

Although he could not match his school-record throw from last week, freshman Vincent Rentzsch(Oranienberg, Germany) finished second in the javelin (58.90m, 193'03").

The Duke Invitational continues on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the long jump while the track events start at 10:00 a.m. with the women's 800m run.
